Kris Van Assche, Belgian designer and former creative director of the men’s lines of Dior and Berluti, has announced 55 collections. In the retrospective book, the designer talks about his own creative career based on the example of the collections he launched. The launch will take place on October 2, writes WWD.
Chris Van Assche admits that as a child growing up in the small town of Londerzeel, he was inspired by the stories of successful people in the fashion world. That is why he agreed to talk about his creative path. “Compiling the collection was a nightmare because I’m not good at sorting my own archives,” says Van Assche. According to the designer, the book’s editor, Grace Johnston, made a great contribution to the work.
The collection, which will be published by Lannoo, contains 432 pages. All images of the collections published by the designer under his own brand, as well as in the Dior and Berluti houses, are presented in chronological order. “There are collections that I treat calmly, but in the end they became turning points,” writes the author.
The book will also tell about the author’s personal life. It begins with a photo of 6-year-old Chris and ends with quotes from his father, Hugo, who worked as a mechanic. Van Asch entrusted the design of the collection to the French duo of graphic designers Mathias Augustignac and Michael Amzalag. Journalist Anders Christian Madsen wrote the foreword. The book features photographs by Paolo Roversi, Willy Vanderperre, Nan Goldin, David Sims, Alasdair McLellan, Sarah Moon, Nick Knight and Patrick Demarchelier.
