“Coalition-SV” was adopted and entered the front line – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Tests of the howitzer were successfully completed in 2023. They confirmed all the declared characteristics. Now this self-propelled gun will be tested in battle.

Recall that the 2S35 “Coalition-SV” interspecific self-propelled gun was developed by specialists from the Central Research Institute “Burevestnik”, located in Nizhny Novgorod. Its main features are the 152 mm cannon, expanded to 52 calibers, and a caseless barrel. This allows projectiles to be sent over a distance of more than 70 km and ensure a high rate of fire.

In 2019, a pilot batch of 12 2S35 “Coalition-SV” howitzers was manufactured at the Ural Transport Engineering Plant of the Uralvagonzavod production company. In May 2020, eight howitzers were sent for an experimental military operation to one of the artillery units of the Central Military District in the Chelyabinsk region. According to the results of military tests, minor modifications were made. Now “Coalition-SV” will have to confirm its combat effectiveness in the conditions of a special operation. As Rostec notes, the howitzer surpasses the best domestic and world models in terms of range and accuracy of firing, as well as the time required to solve combat missions.

“Coalition-SV” is equipped with a 152 mm 2A88 cannon and a modern system for automating aiming, targeting and navigation processes. It is designed to destroy the entire range of ground targets: command posts, communications centers, artillery and mortar batteries, armored vehicles, air defense and missile defense systems.

Coalition-S gunner and commander workstations are equipped with digital displays and are integrated into a single automated tactical command system. This makes it possible to receive target designations via a digital communication channel, carry out round-the-clock surveillance of the terrain, autonomously calculate firing facilities and adjust fire in any weather conditions.

It is worth repeating that the “Coalition-SV” is the first howitzer in which so-called shells are used for firing. They are cylinders of compressed powder. Setting them on fire with an open flame is not so easy. Ignition of the capsule charge and, consequently, firing is carried out using a special microwave initiation system.

Thanks to the design changes in the loading mechanisms and the caseless system, a high rate of fire is guaranteed, up to a maximum of 16 shots per minute.

The appearance of a new artillery installation in the combat zone will be a turning point in the fight against batteries. The fact is that Western 155 mm artillery mounts hit targets at distances up to 40 km. And Russian artillery of a similar caliber – 152 mm – has a firing range of up to 25 km. Thus, the 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV self-propelled gun can fire at 70 km or more.

“Coalition-SV” was created on the basis of the T-90 tank. Crew: three people. For comparison, the similar Msta-S self-propelled gun has five crew members. Transportable ammunition: 70 projectiles.

The main ammunition of the Coalition-SV includes high-explosive fragmentation projectiles, as well as guided ones created on the basis of the Krasnopol projectile. The use of projectiles for special purposes is provided for: lighting, smoke, incendiary.

A special feature of the new howitzer is that it can operate in the so-called Fire Raid mode. In this case, between 12 and 14 projectiles are fired at different angles of elevation of the barrel. This feature allows you to cover large areas with fire and all projectiles fall to the ground almost simultaneously, preventing the enemy from changing position.

In fact, this artillery cannon performs a task that was only possible with multiple rocket launch systems.

The 2S35 “Coalition-SV” self-propelled gun is a new generation of domestic cannon artillery.
