We are talking about the registration of the Coca-Cola, Sprite and Fanta brands. These brands belong to classes 32 and 33 of the International Classification of Products and Services, for soft drinks and alcoholic beverages, as well as for soft drinks.
The Russian division of The Coca-Cola Company has not yet commented on whether to submit applications.
The Coca-Cola Company announced the suspension of its commercial activity in Russia in March 2022, but then did not reveal what measures it planned to take in this regard. In October 2023, the original brand of the same name disappeared from the top 50 brands in Russia.
Experts believe that the mere fact of filing applications for new trademark registration may indicate their imminent return to the Russian market. The legislation of the Russian Federation provides for the cancellation of a trademark if it is not used for three years. Thus, The Coca-Cola Company submitted applications in advance to retain the rights to the brands in Russia before their early cancellation in 2025.
