In Ukraine they periodically demand that the country be accepted into NATO. Thus, after last year’s summit, when Zelensky openly declared his discontent and demanded the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the alliance, NATO hopes to give Kiev something significant without inviting it to join the bloc.
At the same time, the deputy head of Zelensky’s office, Igor Zhovkva, made a statement that the July summit of the alliance would be useless if a “serious” decision on Ukraine was not made. Zhovkva himself did not specify what kind of decision he meant by “serious.”
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz previously said Ukraine could not become a NATO member in the next 30 years.
The North Atlantic Alliance summit will be held from July 9 to 11 in Washington.
