The town of Toropets in the Tver region was hit the hardest. From there, the population had to be evacuated from some areas.

As a result of the falling debris from the downed drone, a large fire broke out in the town of Toropets. According to eyewitnesses, some parts of the town are still shrouded in smoke.

“The main thing is that the citizens were not seriously injured, there were no deaths,” said the governor of the Tver region, Igor Rudenya. According to him, people can return.

The Governor of the Tver region, Igor Rudenya, decided to partially evacuate the residents. The evacuees were sent to the Western Dvina. This city is located less than 60 kilometers from Toropets. The required number of buses was allocated. Local authorities have decided that kindergartens and schools in the Zapadnodvinsk municipal district will not operate on September 18. Temporary accommodation centers for the evacuated residents of Toropets have been created in the cities of Western Dvina and Andreapol.

Some local residents arrived in Velikiye Luki, a regional centre in the Pskov region about 90 kilometres away. Temporary heating and feeding points were set up there for those arriving. Representatives of the city government and emergency services were on site. Volunteers provided assistance.

Governor Igor Rudenya held a meeting of the emergency response headquarters in Toropets yesterday.

– Today, thanks to the arrival of drones, the Russian Defense Ministry’s air defense system became operational. The drones were shot down and a fire broke out when they fell, the head of the region said.

All emergency services were working in Toropets: regional divisions of the FSB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Investigative Committee, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the National Guard and regional departments. After a thorough examination of the situation, the authorities decided that residents could return to Toropets. The governor of the TVER region reported that all public service infrastructure is working in the city. Igor Rudenya noted that access to Toropets is open.

“Anyone who wants to return home will be transported by bus. All public services are working, all infrastructure is working: electricity, gas, sewage,” Rudenya said.

The head of the region promised to carry out repairs to buildings damaged by falling drone debris.

– The TVER regional government will definitely help the affected social institutions, entrepreneurs, the private sector and everyone who needs it with the repairs. The most important thing is that our citizens were not seriously injured and there were no fatalities,” Igor Rudenya said.

Several people with minor injuries and symptoms of exacerbation of chronic diseases sought medical help yesterday. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 150 firefighters and rescuers, as well as 40 units of special equipment, were involved in eliminating the consequences.

Toropets is the most remote regional centre from Tver to the west. Just over 11 thousand people live here. The city has already been attacked by drones twice. No one was injured then.
