The share of domestic production in the sector of vital and essential medicines should reach 90%

In January-May 2024, the production of domestic medicines and medical supplies increased by 8%. This was stated by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a strategic session on the national project “New Technologies to Save Health”.
The Prime Minister said that the main task of the national project will be the introduction of new promising medical technologies and the conduct of clinical studies and testing of medicines with their subsequent launch on the market.
In total, the new national project will include five federal projects. These include:
– development of medical science,
– creation of new generation products, pharmaceutical forms and platforms,
– biomedical and cognitive technologies of the future,
– ensure active and healthy longevity,
– formation of own production facilities.
Mishustin also outlined the tasks for the next five years.
– It is necessary to form a promotion mechanism so that people can receive new solutions and the necessary medical care as quickly as possible.
– ensure the development of 25 gene therapy drugs and personalized cellular products, as well as 11 products based on artificial intelligence,
– create 10 technologies for the prevention and correction of possible cognitive impairments,
– develop more than 15 biomedical solutions, including through the introduction of bioprinting,
– create 10 technologies to reduce the burden of cellular aging.
According to Mishustin, the share of domestic production in the field of vital and essential medicines should reach 90%. For medical products – up to 40%.
As Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova stated, 63% of medicines are currently produced in the country. About 46% of medicines, including vital ones, are produced in Russia in a full cycle.
The average annual increase in the volume of industrial production of medicines and medical devices exceeds other sectors of the economy and ranks third among other industries.
Tatyana Golikova said that it is important to expand the domestic production of radiopharmaceuticals. In Russia, they are mainly used for the diagnosis and control of cancer.
Every year, almost 118 million people (about 81% of the population) receive medical care in Russia.
