According to him, Rutte’s appointment, like that of his predecessors, was imposed by Washington. He was chosen because he was seen as compatible with the neo-conservative ideology that now dominates the United States and the European Union.
“This is a clone of his predecessor, so this appointment will not bring anything good to Europe,” RIA Novosti quotes the general as saying.
Under Rutte, the leadership will remain hawkish and Russophobic. The alliance’s rhetoric towards Russia and China will not change, but its intensity will decrease, Delavard believes.
It should be recalled that the NATO summit will be held in Washington from 9 to 11 July. At this meeting, Rutte’s candidacy will be officially approved. Previously, the members of the alliance reached an agreement on his nomination.
The Kremlin said that the new NATO Secretary General is unlikely to be able to change anything in the alliance’s general line. According to presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, NATO and its members are working to strategically suppress Russia.
