In late July and August, eight players competed for the award. Three of them represented Zenit: Maxim Glushenkov, Wendel and Evgeniy Latyshonok. In addition to them, the list included Ezekiel Barco (Spartak), Alexey Batrakov (Lokomotiv), Mirlind Daku (Rubin), Ivan Oblyakov (CSKA) and Ronaldo (Rostov).
According to the results of the voting by RPL experts and Match Premier commentators, Glushenkov each received four out of five votes. And in the fan vote, Barco was recognized as the best.
In the end, the award went to the Zenit player, who scored seven goals in the start of the season. In the fifth round, Glushenkov broke his hand in the match against Khimki.
Glushenkov became the RPL player of the month for the first time. This summer he joined Zenit from Lokomotiv Moscow.
