Date: September 8, 2024 Time: 05:31:10

Young summer discounts have already been used by 915,000 people. Almost a million young people between the ages of 18 and 30 have made 2.6 million trips by train and bus with discounted tickets during the first two months of entry into force, since June 15, as reported this Friday by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma).

The first balance of the measure shows that, of the total trips made between June 15 and August 15, 58% were made by rail and the rest by road. In fact, 27% of the journeys were made between Madrid and Catalonia, Madrid and the Valencian Community and Madrid and Andalusia.

More than 15,000 interrail passes

The most popular routes were those linking the capital with Barcelona and Valencia, followed by routes between Madrid and Alicante, Malaga, Seville and Bilbao. In addition, 15,500 interrail passes were registered to travel throughout Europe, which means almost reaching the 17,600 passes that were sold in Spain in the whole of 2022.

Since the period opened on June 1, 1.7 million young Europeans have registered on the Ministry’s website to obtain the discount code with which to travel this summer. These data reflect, according to the Ministry, “the good acceptance” of this measure among young people and its contribution “to promote the use of public transport.”

The Summer Youth program offers young people between the ages of 18 and 30, both inclusive, 50% discounts on AVE, Avlo, Alvia, Intercity and Euromed train tickets, with a maximum discount of 30 euros per ticket.

The discounts are also 50% for single Avant tickets and 90% for the rest of Media Distancia services or the Ancho Métrico network and for state bus tickets.
