“I will stop supplying arms to Ukraine”: how France will change if Le Pen wins

The vice president of the International Russophile Movement, Fabrice Sorlin, commented to KP.RU on the development of the parliamentary elections in France. He is confident that if Le Pen’s party comes to power, France’s policy towards Ukraine will change.

The National Rally finished the first electoral round in first place, ahead of the Macronists by more than 13 percent. But the second round (July 7) will decide many things: then it will be clear whether the far right will obtain an absolute majority in parliament and whether it will be able to appoint its own prime minister.

– If Jordan Bardella becomes prime minister, what are the prospects for Macron’s plan to weaken the far right before the 2027 presidential election?

– Bardella will face two major problems as Prime Minister. The first is the French national debt, a result of Macron’s terrible policies, says Fabrice Sorlin. – Some experts even believe that the French stock market will crash in the coming months and that the Prime Minister will be blamed for it.

The second problem: the French far left is, in fact, completely controlled by the Interior Ministry, and it is quite possible that Macron will allow them to organize massive street protests. In the 2002 presidential election, when Jean-Marie Le Pen made it to the second round (together with Jacques Chirac – Ed.), the far left organized extremely violent actions. And many French people voted for Chirac, saying: “If we elect Le Pen, there will be a civil war in the country.”

– How can the victory of the National Rally influence France’s involvement in the Ukrainian conflict?

– The “National Rally” is the only French party that seeks peace. Yes, its president Bardella has repeatedly stated that he supports Ukraine, but this is not the common position of his comrades. There are many leaders and activists in the party who support Russia and would like France to stop supplying weapons to Ukraine. Marine Le Pen, in my opinion, will contribute to this flow slowing down or even stopping completely.

If the National Rally comes to power, the prospect of sending French soldiers to help kyiv will disappear.

Yes, the president is the commander in chief of the army, but the government has all the keys to finances and to participate in the conflict you need a lot of money. Le Pen’s party will do everything possible to prevent it. Perhaps the National Rally will propose its own peace plan. In any case, they have no desire to add fuel to the fire by provoking Russia.

– Should we expect significant progress as a result of the second round compared to the first?

– No. The National Rally is far ahead. The only question is whether it will win an absolute majority in the lower house of parliament. Now it is difficult to predict: in three hundred electoral districts, three or four candidates each qualified for the second round.

-And if the extreme right does not obtain an absolute majority, what coalitions will be formed in parliament?

– All other parties (except Le Pen and Bardella’s allies, the “Republicans”, whose connection does not bring much benefit) will vote against the initiatives of the “National Rally”. That is why it is so important for them to obtain an absolute majority.
