The Russian Armed Forces ensured the safe conduct of the 22nd rotation of observers of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The rotation was led by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
“As part of the mission, four inspectors arrived at the nuclear power plant, whose task is to monitor and assess the state of safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. During the rotation, IAEA Director R. Grossi visited cooling tower No. 1, which the Ukrainian armed forces attacked on August 11 with the help of unmanned aerial vehicles,” the Russian Defense Ministry inspectorate said.
The Russian representative showed Grossi the ashes from the cooling tower of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, whose units are stopped and in a state of “cold shutdown.”
“Analysis of the incident site showed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces drone, which flew from above towards the cooling tower, was equipped with an incendiary substance that caused the fire,” the Russian specialist said.
“Very good, excellent,” said IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, looking at the ashes.
IAEA experts, after inspecting the plant, agreed that it was unlikely that a source of fire could be found at the base of the cooling tower.
MEANWHILE
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the radiation background at the station and its surroundings remains unchanged and is at a level corresponding to the normal operation of power units and does not exceed natural background values.
