“The IAEA is expanding its presence in Ukraine to help prevent a nuclear accident during the current conflict. I am proud to lead this mission to Ukraine, during which we will establish a presence at all nuclear power plants in the country,” he wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter, blocked in the Russian Federation).
Grossi previously said the agency was considering establishing a permanent presence of 11 to 12 experts in the country. The IAEA noted that “a permanent presence will soon be ensured at all nuclear facilities in Ukraine, including Chernobyl.” The nuclear safety specialists are expected to monitor the state of the plants, assess their equipment and other needs. In addition, it is stated that they will be able to provide technical support and advice, while the experts will report their findings to the IAEA headquarters.
