Importation of vinyl records may be banned in Russia

Date: July 8, 2024 Time: 22:42:19

Information has appeared on social media that vinyl records will no longer be imported from Europe to Russia. All this is due to the new set of sanctions that the European Union introduced on June 24. Snob asked representatives of the music market if this is true and what they think about it.

The EU package means that Russia and Belarus will no longer be used as a transit zone for exporting audio media. As noted by Nani Iremadze, director of the online store Plastinka.com, “for companies that are officially engaged in vinyl trading in Russia, logistics will change and become more expensive. There is no universal route for all brands; each one built a working system after the introduction of sanctions “with sweat, blood and money.”

Elena Kulakova, director of the Vinyl.ru store, added that there is still no official information about the ban on importing records from suppliers. “We have carefully reread the original EU sanctions package, which states that the import of polyvinyl chloride in its pure form, i.e. a type of plastic, records and DVDs, into Russia is prohibited. “Nowhere is it written about vinyl records,” she concluded.

Despite EU sanctions, supplies of vinyl records to Russia will continue, as with other products. That is, through parallel imports. In the first few months, the price of the product may increase by 50%, and then, according to forecasts by Andrei Belonogov, director of the Ultra Production vinyl record plant, the price will drop and the profit margin will be 10%.

Recall that Snob editor Olga Bogdanova interviewed writer Anastasia Maksimova, who spoke to the publication about her latest novel, Children in My Dad’s Garage.
