In Belgium, a woman died after a 20-meter Christmas tree fell – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

According to the city’s mayor, Marnik de Melemester, three people were trapped under the fallen fir tree. All of them were hospitalized.

“Unfortunately one of the victims died,” the mayor is quoted as saying by RIA Novosti, referring to the Belgian television channel RTL.

It is clarified that the cause of the fir tree’s fall was a strong gust of wind. Following the incident, local authorities closed the New Year’s fair and began an investigation.
