Of these, 130 are supporters of the left-wing alliance “New Popular Front”, 82 are politicians of the presidential coalition “Together for the Republic” and three candidates are from the liberal party “Republicans”. Three representatives of the National Rally took the same step.
Jordan Bardella strongly condemned the candidates’ action and also described as unnatural the alliance between French President Emmanuel Macron and the founder of the left-wing party “France Invicta”, Jean-Luc Mélenchon. According to Bardell, the party withdrew its candidate to give votes to the former head of the Cabinet, Elizabeth Bourne. It is she who is involved in the unpopular pension reform and in the approval of laws that bypass parliament.
France’s right-wing National Rally won the first round of parliamentary elections. The left-wing New Popular Front coalition came in second, while Macron’s coalition came in third.
The second round is scheduled for July 7. The French will have to elect 577 deputies.
