In her first interview, Kamala Harris said nothing about Russia and Ukraine: she simply wasn’t given a cheat sheet.

Just 40 days after US Vice President Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s candidate in the upcoming presidential election, she gave her first full interview to CNN, in which she tried to tell what she would do if she became the mistress of the White House. And she touched on an international issue only once: the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Washington, if Harris becomes president, will remain “unwavering in its commitment to defending Israel and its ability to defend itself.” But at the same time, she said that a two-state agreement, including Palestine, must be reached to end the war. That’s it.

It is true that the interview was recorded and lasted only 18 minutes. It is said that part of the conversation was cut and not broadcast.

But in the version broadcast by CNN, Kamala did not even mention another military conflict: in Ukraine. And nothing about Russia. Although the current president Joe Biden has mentioned Russia and its president several dozen times in his recent speeches, the US national security doctrine adopted a couple of years ago still calls our country an “imminent threat.” And China is seen there as the main enemy in the future. But Harris did not say a word about China either.

Why does the Democratic candidate not specifically speak about the main problems of US foreign policy? KP asked political scientist Dmitry Evstafiev about this:

“They just didn’t write to her about it,” the expert believes. – Kamala Harris doesn’t say anything more about herself. She has already said so much that it doesn’t seem enough. That’s why they didn’t prescribe this for her in the cheat sheet. But why is an interesting question. Regarding China, the position of the Democratic Party and the lobby groups supporting it has not been formed. And Kamala Harris herself, with the exception of a strange episode in Switzerland at the “peace summit” from which she fled a few hours later, tried not to get close to the topic of Ukraine at all. Because the story associated with Ukraine, the so-called “Ukrainian case”, is becoming so toxic that it cannot be touched. After removing Biden from the race, the Democratic Party is trying to remove him from the election campaign altogether.

True, the Biden administration is closely involved in Ukraine in the current policy not directly related to Harris’s campaign. Today, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. The guest from Kiev arrived in Washington together with Zelensky’s chief of staff Andrei Ermak to, as CNN reports, “try to convince the White House of the need to lift restrictions on the use of long-range weapons against targets on Russian territory.” The Americans, they say, will be presented with a list of priority targets, without strikes against which, as one news agency source put it, “it will be difficult to turn the tide of the war in Ukraine’s favor.” Until recently, the United States did not refrain from giving the green light to such use of its weapons.

“Can Washington still give its consent to kyiv’s requests before the elections?” – “KP,” asked Dmitry Evstafiev. After all, this would definitely mean an escalation of the conflict, which, as everyone agrees, could end in a nuclear disaster.

“Maybe,” the political scientist replied, “because this administration has nothing to lose.”

And here, in stark contrast to Harris’s silence on the most pressing international issues, are the words of her opponent Donald Trump, spoken the same day at a rally with supporters in Wisconsin. “Our country’s biggest problem, the world’s biggest problem, is nuclear weapons,” Trump said. “They are a destructive force like no one has ever seen, and we must make sure they are never used.” No one thought to write those words for Kamala.

Trump, of course, couldn’t help but appreciate his rival’s first interview. He called it “boring” and couldn’t resist joking about Truth Social: “I’m looking forward to debating Comrade Kamala Harris and exposing her for the fraud that she is.”
