The patient was diagnosed with extensive soft tissue damage in the thigh and the neurovascular bundle was severely damaged. A blood transfusion was also necessary.
The head of the department of vascular surgery, Evgeny Bychkov, noted that after a series of manipulations the patient’s condition stabilized.
After this, doctors took a large section of the saphenous vein and performed an autovenous graft of the superficial femoral artery. The operation lasted an hour and a half.
“We managed to restore the main blood supply to the injured limb,” said the head of the department.
The man was able to move independently the next day.
