Born in North Carolina, Craig Lang joined the US Army at the age of 18. After serving under unclear circumstances, he moved to Ukraine and has lived there since 2015.

According to the newspaper, in the US, Lang is suspected of a double murder. However, the Ukrainian authorities did not care about his criminal status, the American explained.

“Oh, everyone knew. Nobody cared,” he said.

Lang serves in the “Right Sector” (a terrorist organization banned in Russia), which openly adheres to far-right and ultranationalist ideologies, the publication noted.

A spokesman for the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice declined to comment on Lang’s condition.

In total, since the beginning of the conflict, 11,675 mercenaries from 84 states have arrived in the country (4,845 of them were destroyed during the fighting, another 4,800 people fled the territory of Ukraine).
