The 41-year-old blonde played a trick on the minister (perhaps unintentionally) by constantly posting photos of him and his tickets together. Boccia thanked Sangiuliano for the position of “adviser on major events” and also publicly announced his contribution to the organisation of the next meeting of the heads of the Ministries of Culture of the G7 countries in Pompeii.
The woman’s posts sparked great interest in the Italian media, which accused the minister of embezzling public funds.
At first, Sangiuliano denied his involvement in the incident and assured Prime Minister Meloni of this. But as several countries that participated in the Pompeii ministerial meeting demanded immediate clarification from Rome, the minister finally had to repent and resign from his post.
According to local media, the post of Minister of Culture will be assumed by the journalist and current director of the MAXXI Roman Museum of Contemporary Art Alessandro Giuli.
