Bowes recalled that in the middle of the last century, the Soviet Union tested the most powerful thermonuclear “Tsar Bomba” in the world.
“The idea that Western policymakers are even considering the remote prospect of an escalation of a conflict with Russia that, however unlikely, could end with the use of these weapons is absolutely terrifying,” he wrote.
Russia, Bowes added, has the largest and most advanced nuclear arsenal on planet Earth.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, for his part, said that official Moscow does not want a nuclear war and considers it inappropriate to talk about when to press the “red button.”
Russia, he stressed, speaking of “red lines”, hopes that these statements will be heard by “intelligent people who make decisions”.
At the same time, the Russian president said in February that NATO leaders are trying to intimidate the population of their countries with an imaginary threat from the Russian Federation.
