Fed up with the coronavirus and not just the coronavirus, Joe Biden has no intention of giving up just yet: despite calls and attacks from all sides, he does not want to give up the election race. Meanwhile, American analysts (and our political scientists) consider 59-year-old Kamala Harris to be the most likely choice to replace him as a candidate in the presidential election.
“You can be the first, but make sure there is someone behind you,” is her motto, inherited from her mother. KP.RU has analyzed interesting facts from Harris’ life.
BIOGRAPHY OF KAMALA HARRIS
HEREDITARY REBEL
Kamala was born in the United States to a family of immigrants and talented scientists. Her Indian mother was a biomedical researcher and her Jamaican father was an economics professor. While still graduate students, her parents took the newborn Kamala to protests in defense of the civil rights of foreigners.
At the age of 13, the girl held her own demonstration in front of an apartment building, protesting against the janitor, who forbade children from running on the grass.
Growing up, Harris became involved in political activism. She protested against apartheid in South Africa and participated in a sit-in to demand the expulsion of the university’s student newspaper editor.
VICTIM OF RACISM
Kamala was familiar with racism in American society: neighbours forbade their children from playing with her because of her “dirty” background. The girl was not able to enroll immediately in the school where she lived. It was not until 1964, when US President Lyndon Johnson banned segregation, but in practice it was fought for a long time.
Kamala and other children from black neighborhoods were bused to schools in white neighborhoods. Thanks to this change, Harris had good teachers.
SEXUAL CRIMES
Harris is known among human rights activists as a tough interrogator. She landed a job as an assistant district attorney in Alameda, specializing in sex crimes. After eight years of hard work, Harris was assigned to the San Francisco district attorney’s office.

In 2004, Kamala took her place. And in 2011, she became California’s Attorney General.
She was known for her tough interrogation style. By her own admission, she focused her efforts on fighting wealthy corporations, won multimillion-dollar compensations for ordinary Americans, and was involved in protecting the environment.
LIKE TRUMP
The Trump family was impressed by Harris’ fiscal activity. So much so that in 2011 and 2013, the businessman sent a total of six thousand dollars to support Kamala’s campaign. A year later, Ivanka Trump also donated $2,000 to Harris for her re-election.
However, Harris later voted to impeach Donald Trump, accusing him of abuse of power. For six months, the US House of Representatives tried to prove that the then president persuaded Kiev to investigate Hunter Biden’s involvement in corruption schemes in exchange for financial and military assistance. However, Trump’s guilt could not be confirmed.
BIDEN’S CONFUSION
In January 2019, Harris announced her participation in the US presidential election. She relied primarily on states with greater racial diversity. She promised not to accept campaign money from corporations.

In the televised debate, Kamala asked Biden tough questions, which openly embarrassed him. However, Harris’s approval rating was only three percent three months before the Democratic primaries. She then decided to stop campaigning and supported Joe’s candidacy. But she did so only when all the other representatives of the fair sex dropped out of the race.
FRIEND BO
As California’s attorney general, Kamala was often in contact with her colleague, Beau Biden, the politician’s eldest son (who died in 2015 from a brain tumor). Over time, their professional relationship became personal. I mean friendly.
In her memoirs, Harris wrote: “There were difficult periods and Beau and I talked every day, sometimes several times a day.”
THE MOST ATTRACTIVE
Kamala and Barack are also old friends. Harris staunchly supported Obama during his presidential campaign. It got to the point where Barack publicly called Harris “the most attractive prosecutor in the country.” Critics considered his comment inappropriate and sexist.

Many pundits even assumed that, once he became president, Obama would appoint his girlfriend as US attorney general. Or give her a seat on the Supreme Court. It didn’t work out.
KAMALA HARRIS’ PERSONAL LIFE
Kamala’s workaholism interfered greatly with her personal life. In 1994-1995, Harris worked closely with California Assembly Speaker Willie Brown, who was thirty years her senior. Nothing went right for them.
Kamala was first married at the age of 49 to law firm partner Douglas Emhoff. She has no children of her own; her husband has a son and daughter from his first marriage.
Harris once admitted in an interview that she loves French fries and often stuffs herself with them. She also loves dogs, but has never dared to have at least one pet.
ALWAYS FIRST
The word “first” is often heard in Kamala’s biography. She is the first woman, the first Black woman, and the first Asian politician to serve as district attorney, attorney general, and then vice president in US history. In November 2021, while Biden was under anesthesia, Harris became the first and only woman in US history to assume the powers of the presidency.
