Karen Shakhnazarov arrived with the premiere at Artek

Date: July 7, 2024 Time: 00:08:31

For the 32nd time, the children’s film festival “Scarlet Sails” named after Vasily Lanovoy is setting sail in Artek.

For all these years, the film screening was conducted by the head of the Kinogrom association, Irina Gromova. Previously, Vasily Semyonovich Lanovoy was the president of the film festival, and two years ago Andrei Sokolov joined Gromova’s team as the president of the film forum.

“These meetings at Artek are important for both adults and children,” says Andrei Sokolov. “It is nice that after these meetings some children start to seriously think about entering a profession related to cinema.

We all come from childhood, and Artek, for every child in the Soviet Union, is a kind of special world that everyone dreamed of going to. When I was in fifth or sixth grade, I was lucky enough to once come to Artek, it was in the Morskoy field.

Time passed, and when I had already begun to devote myself to the acting profession, I ended up in Artek as a guest of the Scarlet Sails film festival. And somehow it happened that my heart was already attached to this festival. And with the organizer Ira Gromova we have developed a very close and trusting relationship, almost a family relationship. Now we are creating this miracle together. Every year we fly to Artek twice to prepare for the festival and then to the festival itself. All this trouble, all this fuss is fascinating, because it is kind, good and, despite some difficulties, very joyful work. Because children are our future, because whatever seeds we sow, we will reap the same fruits,” says the artist.

This year, Nikolai Denisov, Tatyana Sudets and TV series stars flew to the film festival.

According to Sokolov, this year the festival was supported by the Ministry of Defense.

– We all know what happened in Sevastopol (at the end of June the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked Sevastopol with ballistic missiles), military operations continue, parents are afraid for their children, relatives are worried about how the festival participants will get to Artek. Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Defence we can safely reach our destination. The festival is held under increased security measures.

Every year, movie stars come to Scarlet Sails to give Artek master classes and film short films with children. Based on the results of the filming, Artek residents themselves evaluate the joint creations of adult masters and children.

This year, children were offered 3 themes for filming: Strong Family – Strong Russia; a film in memory of Vasily Semenovich Lanovoy; and the third theme is dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin.

This year, creative mentors for each camp were chosen using artificial intelligence.

In addition, the young jury will be presented with the latest cinematographic novelties for children.

We have already watched Anna Chernakova’s war drama Katya-Katya with the children of the Morskoy camp.

This is the case when both adults and children unanimously liked the film. A touching love story of young Katya, which took place in the spring of 1942. A girl corresponds with an unknown sailor. When he is sent to the front, his train must pass through Moscow and they have a chance to meet… There will be no more spoilers, the film, based on the script by Alexander Adabashyan, is so cleverly twisted that it is worth watching.

The guest of honour of this year’s festival was the director of Mosfilm, Karen Shakhnazarov.

As it turned out, the director is also a former resident of Artek – 60 years ago he spent his holidays in the legendary Karen Georgievich camp.

– It was great. I remember that my parents sent us by train. Kids from different countries were vacationing with us here. Then there was a war in Algeria and children from this country came here,” Shakhnazarov recalls.

At the film festival, Karen Shakhnazarov will present her new detective-adventure story “Khitrovka. The Sign of Four.”

– I think children will like it. This is an adventure film for children, – Shakhnazarov told reporters.
