“Ukraine attacked Lipetsk airfield: detonation of planes and warehouses with aerial bombs!” Ukrainian public pages and related online media were full of panic messages throughout the morning. These were allegedly attacks on a military airfield in the Lipetsk region; online militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to convince everyone that Russian aircraft had suffered catastrophic damage.
Komsomolskaya Pravda, within the framework of a joint project with Noodle Media aimed at exposing false information, checked the facts. On the night of August 9, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the Lipetsk region. According to the head of the region, Igor Artamonov, a state of emergency was declared to eliminate the consequences, but by morning the situation had returned to normal and all levels of response were canceled.
As for the military airfield, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Lipetsk region reported that a fire “number three” broke out there. This is an average category of fire complexity, the most dangerous is a fire of the fifth category. In the third category, 10 brigades are involved in extinguishing a fire; this category does not imply the detonation of ammunition or the ignition of dangerous objects. In addition, no catastrophic consequences for the infrastructure of the military airfield were reported.
Governor Igor Artamonov thanked the security forces for their professionalism and the residents of the Lipetsk region for their resilience.
