Lukashenko: No one will force Belarus to deviate from the path to peace and creation – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: July 5, 2024 Time: 01:43:04

Evaluating the aggressive policies of several countries, the President drew attention to those who are currently at the forefront of anti-Belarusian and anti-Russian campaigns. “Politicians without children are dying out. They don’t even have the gene of hatred to pass it on to anyone,” he succinctly concluded.

But with the peoples of Western countries, the president confirmed, with those who “live for the future of their children and grandchildren, we will always find a common language and come to an agreement. Nothing and no one will force Belarus to turn its back on this path – the path to peace and creation.”

The country of ten million people, according to its leader, is developing confidently despite the most gloomy forecasts and predictions, noting that next year will mark the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. For the Republic of Belarus, this is also the anniversary of a new milestone in national construction: in 1945, the republic signed the UN Charter.

“We are on a par with the founding states as a country that bore the brunt of the blow, suffered heavy losses and put up unprecedented popular resistance to the aggressor,” Lukashenko said.

It is true, he admitted, “it is bitter and painful to know that international legitimacy has cost us terrible human sacrifices, but just as a person comes into the world through pain, so nations are born with terrible pain, the struggle for life, for freedom, for their historical memory.”

The president is convinced that the people of Sineokaya knew about this law, and that is why they did and do everything possible to not deviate from the path forged by previous generations. And they have been following it for thirty years, overcoming sanctions, political intrigues, blackmail and media provocations.

Explaining the logic of the country’s foreign policy vector, the speaker clarified that this is not a turn or a retreat, but a consistent civilizational choice. According to him, Belarus has managed to build an economy with a significant safety margin, so the country cannot be manipulated.

“It is useless for us to threaten to ban the sale of machines, units and their maintenance. We ourselves make a lot of things: from combine harvesters and laptops to electric cars and buses. Well, if there are still no opportunities, then the world has not yet united like a wedge in the West. There are friends in other parts of the world,” the Belarusian leader said, noting that it is in the East that a creative agenda is being formed: economic, international and ideological. There the sun rises both literally and figuratively, he added.

In his speech, Lukashenko commented on the situation on the border between Belarus and Ukraine and noted that this issue is actively discussed in the media. Admitting that the neighbours have become very active in recent days, he made it clear that, for its part, official Minsk has no intention of allowing any escalation or aggravation. “I want the Ukrainian leadership to hear this,” the Supreme Commander-in-Chief said.

At the same time, he warned Kiev that in case of a threat, the response would be tough and decisive. He also said that the Belarusian army intercepts drones heading to Russia and carrying explosives to carry out terrorist attacks. “I would ask the Ukrainians not to play with fire. This is very dangerous,” the head of state warned his neighbors.

Lukashenko also spoke about the migration situation at the border and proposed to answer the basic question of where migrants are fleeing, where to and why.

It was the West that called them, he recalled. And before the introduction of sanctions, the leadership of the Republic of Belarus cooperated with its European partners, even to the point of concluding a readmission agreement. “Then they abandoned this. We will not catch them. Our job is to ensure the safety of the people,” Lukashenko reasonably noted, adding that “I do not intend to give orders to border guards, military personnel and others to protect the European Union on the border of Belarus and Poland.”
