Danil, did you want to jump higher, considering that at the Moscow Athletics Week there was a successful attempt of 2.33 m?
Danil Lysenko: Honestly, I am not satisfied with the result. I recently jumped 2.30 in training. But for competitions this is nothing serious. But there were technical moments, mistakes: in the previous race, with the push, my shoulders turned. What an attempt, then some kind of error.
Of course, I would like to jump more, but here the victory was probably more important.
Belarusians were shocked, especially since their leader, Tokyo Olympic medalist Maxim Nedosekov, will not even perform in Kazan?
Danil Lysenko: I didn’t expect so much competition from the Belarusians. Well done guys. I congratulated them. May they continue with the same spirit.
Lately my biggest rival has been Ilya Ivanyuk. So on June 6 in Gorky Park we had an unreal fight. He barely managed to win on the third try. But today Ilya’s shot broke in the sector, after which he knocked down the bar three times and ended the fight.
Did you follow the Euro Cup in Rome?
Danil Lysenko: I looked at the height of the men. We continue to compete with foreigners in absentia. The Italian Tamberi scored 2.34 – jumped, then 2.37 – jumped. He is aware of my results, I am aware of his jumps.
How would you rate the BRICS Games gold medal?
Danil Lysenko: The medal is valuable. After all, in Russia I have never competed with so many athletes from other countries. Plus the atmosphere here is incredible. I walked through the town: there was music, there were athletes from different sports. I remembered the Youth Games in China, which I attended when I was 17 years old. Plus all my loved ones are here in the stands. And I love Kazan since childhood. I came here for the “Youth Shipovka” event. The public supported me wonderfully. He asked to applaud and the stands erupted. This also helped me prepare. Next, the child athletes came up to take a photo and sign an autograph. I wished them victories in the future.
You yourself are on a 25-match winning streak. Isn’t it urgent?
Danil Lysenko: I didn’t even know before my last victory. Friends told me. But I don’t think about that, so it doesn’t bother me. The next start will be the tournament in Bryansk on June 29. I will try to win again and improve my result: jump 2.34 m.
