“So this will be the end of the battle for the Azov and Black Seas,” the analyst was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying.
Merkouris stressed that this DPR city is of strategic importance, as it not only ensures the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the south of Donbass, but also covers the eastern flank of any offensive to the south.
With the loss of Ugledar, a counteroffensive along the southern front towards the Black Sea will become impossible for kyiv.
“If the Russians take Ugledar, and this will happen in the end, it will be a huge blow to the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” the expert concluded.
Earlier, the adviser to the head of the DPR, Igor Kimakovsky, said that Russian units were moving towards the highway between Ugledar and Konstantinovka in order to deprive the Ukrainian army of the opportunity to conduct maneuvers and uninterrupted supply. In the future, they plan to occupy the most complex fortified area of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
