Meteorologists promised Primorye residents a typhoon-free July – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: July 7, 2024 Time: 00:19:06

Calculations based on several forecast models give specialists of the regional hydrometeorological service reason to believe that at least until the middle of the month not a single such cyclone will emerge in the Pacific Ocean.

“Only one of the forecast models showed that after July 15, the birth of a typhoon could be observed, but this is a distant prospect and, at the same time, only according to one model, even if a typhoon appears and then moves forward. In Primorye, it will take “at least one more week,” said the director of Primhydromet.

He added that the first stage of the summer monsoon has already ended, with large amounts of rain in the northern and central regions of the region. Its second stage begins, when the Pacific anticyclone becomes active. The extremely rainy June gives way to a more traditional July: mostly dry and warm weather is expected.

“In the second stage of the monsoon, a warmer, even subtropical air mass arrives from the south. Rains will begin to fall more frequently in the south, but they will still not be as abundant as in June,” the expert noted.

As Primhydromet informed RG, the formation of typhoons in the tropical zone of the Pacific Ocean has already begun, but they have not yet reached the territory of Primorye. Moreover, in the equatorial zone, “typhoon” activity has been minimized and no typhoons are expected in the next 10 years.

In June, in the central and northern parts of the Primorsky Krai, 112 to 276 millimetres of precipitation fell, which was 1.3 to 3.5 times the monthly norm. Heavy flooding caused flooding in areas along the Ussuri River basin and Lake Khanka.
