Minsk has prepared asymmetric measures in response to EU sanctions – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

The sooner, the diplomat stressed, European bureaucrats understand the futility of their efforts, “the less harm they can do to European businesses and people. For us, these new restrictive measures are a completely passing phase. We are working on development plans, the economy is actively functioning and, frankly, there are many things and projects ahead.”

Noting that the country is preparing for Independence Day, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that this week the Republic of Belarus plans to become a full member of the SCO. A series of serious visits abroad and the launch of important cooperation programs with those countries that want to develop mutually beneficial cooperation are also planned. “And in the world there are a majority of countries like that,” Glaz pointed out reasonably.

Against this background, he said, the attempts by EU leaders to slow down the republic’s development with their illegal sanctions packages look a bit comical. “It is obvious that decisions taken in haste in order to be in time for the change of presidency will further strengthen us, intensify interaction with key partners, cause unrest, first of all, among Europeans, and ultimately further weaken the European Union itself,” the diplomat predicts. He also doubts that with such approaches, which are not shared by the global majority, the EU will be able to claim in the future “any significant role” in the new world order that is being built.

Regarding the set of asymmetric response measures that the government of the Republic of Belarus has already prepared, as explained by Glaz, they will be associated with the tightening of the conditions for the importation and activity of entities from hostile countries in the Republic of Belarus.

At the same time, the Foreign Ministry once again made it clear that these measures are not proactive and that all the blame lies with the initiators of the sanctions – the EU leaders. “Although we are still convinced that in order to eliminate mutual claims it is more effective not to exchange restrictions, but to engage in dialogue, which Belarus is ready to do in any format and on any of the most sensitive issues,” the diplomat added.
