Earlier, Governor Andy Beshear announced the murder of Judge Kevin Mullins in the city of Whiteburg. According to him, the judge was shot dead in his own chambers.
The previous afternoon, Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines walked into the judge’s office and asked the people gathered there to leave them alone, authorities said.
After a while shots were heard. The sheriff came out with his hands up and surrendered to the police.
The motive for the crime is still unclear. Police have launched an investigation.
The publication notes that the slain judge was recognized for his efforts to treat drug-addicted citizens instead of imprisoning them.
