Nicole Kidman’s victory at the Venice Film Festival turned into a sudden tragedy. Just hours before the awards ceremony for the winners of the film forum, the mother of Hollywood star Janelle Anne Kidman passed away. At the closing ceremony, the jury of the competition declared Nicole the best actress. She received the award for best actress for the film “Baby”. However, the artist did not attend the ceremony.
Instead, the film’s director, Galina Rein, took the stage and read a message from Nicole.
“I arrived in Venice this afternoon to find out that my beautiful and brave mother Janelle has just passed away. I am in shock and need to go to my family but this award is for her, she shaped me, guided me and created me. I am immensely grateful to be able to tell her name to all of you through Galina. My heart is broken,” Kidman wrote. The actress’s mother was 83 years old.

The 57-year-old actress was born in Hawaii, but moved to her parents’ homeland of Australia at the age of four. Although Nicole has had a successful career in Hollywood, she has always considered this continent to be her home. Her father, Anthony David Kidman, worked as a biochemist and studied the problem of cancer cells. Janelle Anne Kidman’s mother was a housewife and helped her husband edit his books. Nicole has a younger sister, Antonia Kidman, a journalist and television presenter.
At the age of four, Nicole began studying ballet; this passion led her first to the theater and then to the cinema. In 1990, she received an invitation to star in the Hollywood film “Days of Thunder”, on the set of which she met her future husband, Tom Cruise. Nicole and Tom met when the 23-year-old actress had just arrived in the United States from Australia. She was not yet famous then, but Tom was already popular. They soon got married. Cruise and Kidman adopted two children: son Connor and daughter Isabella. They lived married for 11 years. In 2001, Cruise filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the separation.
In 2006, Kidman married Australian musician Keith Urban. In 2008, they had a daughter, Sunday Rose, and in 2010, Faith Margaret was born with the help of a surrogate mother. Their marriage cannot be called easy: Kidman had to deal with her husband’s alcoholism and drug addiction. But now it seems that all is behind her.
