As the publication notes, this happened after Israel’s ambassador was summoned to the French Foreign Ministry due to new attacks on UN peacekeepers’ positions in Lebanon.
“Mr Netanyahu must not forget that his country was created by a UN decision and therefore must not violate UN decrees,” Macron said at the meeting.
Thus, he made reference to the vote of the UN General Assembly in 1947 in favor of the creation of independent Arab and Jewish States.
Previously, Macron called for an end to arms supplies to Israel due to its operation in the Gaza Strip. This, in turn, drew harsh criticism from the Israeli government and Netanyahu.
Additionally, the French president criticized the IDF attack on UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, saying he “will not tolerate” further attacks on members of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
