On October 15, it became known that Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree according to which the composition of the Cultural Council was updated. New names also appeared on this advisory body.
But let’s start with the reorganization: the place of the secretary of the council is now occupied by Vladimir Medinsky, assistant to the Head of State. In this position he replaced Vladimir Tolstoy, who headed the Yasnaya Polyana book prize.
In addition, they retained the director Karen Shakhnazarov, the musicians Yuri Bashmet and Denis Matsuev, the director of the Moscow Bolshoi Circus Edgard Zapashny, the artistic director of the Bolshoi Theater Nikolai Tsiskaridze, the singer Polina Gagarina, the dancer Svetlana Zakharova, the metropolitan of Simferopol and Crimean Tikhon (Shevkunov) their seats on the council.
Among the new faces are the writer Zakhar Prilepin, who survived the assassination attempt, the director of Channel One Konstantin Ernst, the artistic director of the Moscow Art Theater. Chekhov Konstantin Khabensky, Soyuzmultfilm director Yulianna Slashcheva, philologist Dmitry Bak and singer Ildar Abdrazakov.
The council’s composition was last approved in 2018, when it included Fyodor Bondarchuk and Alexander Kalyagin. But now they are not in the updated list of participants. By the way, according to one conspiracy theory, the probable divorce of Bondarchuk and Paulina Andreeva may be related to their views on politics. In total, there are more than 50 people on the council’s list of experts.
The Presidential Council for Culture and Arts is believed to be an advisory body designed to inform the Head of State about the situation in these areas. It includes people who are suitable for such roles, based on “personal creative success and unconditional professional authority.”
