Putin raised by five years the age limit for Russians to remain in reserve and reserve KXan 36 Daily News

Date: September 8, 2024 Time: 05:25:25

Amendments are being made to the law “On Military Service and Military Service.” The age limit for reserve soldiers, sailors, sergeants, foremen, non-commissioned officers, and midshipmen is increased by five years.

The law enters into force on January 1, 2024, but there will be a transitional period until 2028:

– Citizens who turn 50 in 2024 will remain in reserve until the age of 51,

– that in 2025 he will be 50 years old, he will be there until he is 52 years old,

– who turned 50 in 2026 and 2027, – up to 53 and 54 years, respectively.

In addition, the age limit for the permanence of storekeepers in the mobilization reserve is extended:

– for citizens with military ranks of senior officers, it will be 65 years (now in most cases 60 years),

– for junior officers – 60 years (today 55 years),

– for those who have other titles – 55 years (today 45 years).

At the same time, the age limit for being in the mobilization reserve for reserve citizens with military rank of senior officers remains at the level of 70 years.

Cases of suspension of stay in the reserve are also prescribed: conscription for military service for mobilization, conclusion of a contract for the period of military service or a voluntary service contract.

In addition, the bill provides for the possibility of entering into a contract with a person who has the citizenship of another state, under 52 years of age. This also applies to those with a residence permit. It is prescribed that the conclusion of a military contract to remain in reserve with a foreigner will be possible if his functions are not related to the use of State secrets.

Andrey Krasov, first deputy chairman of the Defense Committee of the State Duma, said that the bill is aimed at further improving the defense capabilities of our state.

Aleksey Zhuravlev, another first deputy head of the relevant committee, explained in a comment to RG that the deputies are gradually adapting the law on military service to the conditions dictated by the special operation. “In principle there are no ex-servicemen, but now officially the uniformed will be in reserve for up to 55 years instead of the previous 50. This will allow them to close contracts, and older specialists sometimes bring more benefits than younger ones, especially in those specialties where not everything is determined by physical condition. However, veterans often don’t give up on that either.”

As for the innovation on allowing foreigners to enter into contracts with the Ministry of Defense, the demand for this is very great, Zhuravlev believes. Now “they have the opportunity to show that they came to Russia not only to earn money, but also to defend it,” he said. According to him, innovation will become an additional way of replenishment of personnel.
