The free passes for Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distancia and the 50% discounts for Avant services have exceeded two million units in sales. These reduced rate passes correspond to the discounts implemented by the Government for the period between May 1, 2023 and August 31 of the same year.
Among the multi-trip tickets at no cost to the customer financed by the Government during the second four-month period of the year, those corresponding to Cercanías, Rodalíes and Cercanías of metric gauge would be close to a million and a half. Media Distancia subscriptions, on the other hand, would reach close to 470,000 users.
Tickets to travel medium distances on lines that offer the Avant train service at half the price of the regular rate have been the least used, with a total of around 77,000 tickets having been issued by Renfe.
Quarterly subscriptions and trust
Following the approval by the Government of the free passes for 2023, Renfe has created specific multi-trip tickets that are valid for each calendar four-month period of the year. Subscriptions can be purchased during the four months of their validity.
To do this, although they are free, it is necessary to deposit a deposit of 10 euros in the case of Cercanías and Rodalies, and 20 euros for each Media Distancia service. Payment by card allows the automatic return of the deposit, once it has been verified that the condition of having made 16 trips during those four months has been met.
