On Monday, the WTA announced the name of the best rookie of the year. This title was won by 16-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva. In 2023, she made a breakthrough, rising in the ranking almost 350 positions.
Andreeva started this season in 405th position and finished in 57th place. At the same time, as the season progressed, she rose to 46th in the rankings. The Russian was ahead of her compatriots Diana Schneider and Elina Avanesyan, as well as the Czech Linda Noskova and the American Peyton Stearns, who were competing for this award.
Poland’s Iga Swiatek was named WTA Tennis Player of the Year. The Russians Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (“comeback of the year”) and Vera Zvonareva, along with the German Laura Siegemund (“best couple of the year”), did not win in their nominations.
