Scott was born in 1948 in Kansas City and began his musical career in the 1960s. For more than half a century, from 1970 to 2022, he played in the iconic band Sha Na Na.
Sha Na Na’s music can be heard in 1978’s Grease with Travolta and Newton-John, where Travolta’s character Danny sings her hit Sandy. Scott co-wrote the hit.
The artist received his nickname in the mid-1960s, when, while studying at Columbia University, he founded and led the blues group The Royal Pythons.
According to Nina Simon, daughter of the legend, her father died of cancer.
