Sergey Sirotkin told Snob about his main sources of inspiration and his relationship with Gosha Rubchinsky.

Sergey Sirotkin told Snob how he met Gosha Rubchinsky, how he was inspired by Nirvana’s “Something in the Way,” why he prefers to release EPs instead of full-length albums, and what he calls his “super weakness.”

Sirotkin is not the first band of the singer. In 2008, he and his brother created the music group Fake Empire, the name of which coincided with the name of a song by the rock band The National. “Then the group broke up, because almost all the participants somehow lost their romantic attitude towards music and went to work “normally”. I am the only one left,” Sergei shared.

When asked how the Sirotkin project was formed in 2015, Sergei replied: “We were all together for a long time, the line-up changed a bit, but mostly it just grew. Vlad Khaidurov was the first to come, listened to the songs in public and wrote to me in contact, suggesting that we try something together. And the last to join was Max. We have been playing with the same line-up for several years now and we haven’t changed,” he added.

The singer also talked about what inspires him when writing songs. So, “Forever” was slightly influenced by Nirvana’s “Something in the Way”. “They sing: “It’s okay to eat fish, because they don’t have any feelings.” And here we have: “Swarms of white fish swim past us, barely visible, but alive, I would save them, how.” Maybe a lighter version. It’s all about the lyrics,” Sergei admitted.

Sergey also shared the story of his relationship with Gosha Rubchinsky, the head of the Yeezy design department. “I was into BMX, I rode for many years, in our area there was a whole company with skateboards, roller skates and bikes. It was much more popular then than now. Gosha often walked with us, took pictures, and then we became friends. At that time I didn’t have music, and he didn’t have a brand,” he concluded.

Let us remind you that Snob has launched the project Things and People – a series of philosophical conversations with collectors of the most unusual objects. In the first article, the correspondent of the publication spoke with contemporary art collector Anton Kozlov.
