US Secretary of State Antony Blinken today accused the RT television channel of allegedly participating in covert operations to interfere in the affairs of other countries.
He added that Washington has imposed sanctions on three organisations and two individuals in connection with the allegations against the television channel.
In early September, the US imposed sanctions against the Rossiya Segodnya media group, RIA Novosti, RT, Sputnik and Ruptly.
Simonyan and several senior managers of the TV channel were subject to restrictions.
As noted by Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov, the United States wants to clear the media of inconvenient truths with its sanctions.
In his view, US officials are giving additional impetus to the aggressive phase of the “witch hunt” against dissent.
