The MioOrto orthosis was developed by scientists from the Competence Center of the National Technological Initiative “Bionic Engineering in Medicine”, reported the Russian Ministry of Health. The device helps patients restore motor functions and return to normal life much faster, also because rehabilitation with the help of an orthosis begins on the third day after surgery (usually from the third month).

So far, the orthosis has been tested on volunteers, patients who have already undergone knee replacement surgery. In 2024, research will continue with patients and other pathologies.
The developed device allows you to obtain accurate data on the work of the muscles and the degree of tension. Bioelectrical activity and information reflecting the biomechanics of the knee joint are read, allowing rehabilitation measures to be optimized.
“A mobile application has already been developed. In the future, we plan to integrate the application with medical systems so that the doctor can see all the necessary information about the patient in a single window,” said Viktor Kazantsev, head of the laboratory for the design of “smart clothing” and rehabilitation hardware and software systems.
In the future, patients will be able to continue exercising with the orthosis at home, with the help of specially designed therapeutic exercise video lessons.
“There are currently several prototypes of orthoses. Each of them is being improved taking into account the wishes of volunteers, patients and doctors. In February the fourth (final) version of MioOrto will be created, which must be registered with Roszdravnadzor as a medical product” , said the head of the rehabilitation department of the SamSMU laboratory of the Russian Ministry of Health, Nikita Shcherbatov.
