Yesterday, news appeared on social media that a barge ran aground on the Don near the village of Starocherkasskaya (according to other sources, two barges). The information, without citing a source, was accompanied by a video showing two vessels (one of them the Brothers 12 tanker) standing on a dry river bed. In the comments under the video, some subscribers claim that this is the territory of a ship repair plant in the Aksai region, and that the vessels have been in this position for several years. No other confirmation of information about the stranded barge has been published.
According to the dispatch service of the Azov-Don Inland Navigation Basin Administration, the information does not correspond to reality. There are currently no stranded ships in the area of responsibility of the administration.
It is worth noting that now, due to the strong easterly wind, which has been blowing in the region for several days, the mouth of the Don and the Taganrog Bay have become shallow. Residents of the region are actively sharing photos of the exposed bottom of the bay within Taganrog on social networks.
According to Rosthidrometcenter, the water level at the mouth of the Don has dropped by 40-49 cm below the unfavorable level, but no dangerous hydrological phenomena are expected. What is happening on the Don now is considered normal and alternates with floods.
