The Art Film Festival will take place from October 21 to November 3. This year its geography is expanding: in addition to Moscow and St. Petersburg, shows will be held in Samara, Perm, Vladimir, Yekaterinburg and Nizhny Novgorod.
The program will open with the film “Distant Loved Ones”, presented at the 77th Locarno Film Festival, which tells the story of a family drama. It will be followed by “Arte Povera, Notes for History”, exploring the history of “poor art” with the participation of the movement’s protagonists. In addition, the films “Criticism is Dead, Long Live Criticism” and “Through the Eyes of Jamie Wyeth” from the Amfest Art & Artists program will be screened.
The problem of insufficient attention to artistic life in the regions will be reflected in the film “The Culture Factory” and in the road movie “The Tragedy on the Corner.” Among the Russian films announced are also the Yakut pseudo-documentary “King Lear”, “Rembrandt. Dedication”, which traces the path to the creation of Alexander Sokurov’s installation at the Hermitage, and “Filonov”, which opens the door to the artistic world of one of the leaders of the Russian avant-garde.
Architecture will also be an important theme of the festival: in this block “The Sense of Rhythm” by Ila Beki and Louise Lemoine, “Pomerol, Herzog and de Meuron” about the French winery “Petrus”, “Endless Happiness” and “ Mr. Moriyama’s house.” As part of the screenings, there will be an extensive public program: debates with critics, film experts, directors, artists and art historians.
