Recall that on May 15, doctors Ilya Elagin and Temarlan Kadzaev were detained. On February 16, 2024, at the IQ Plastic clinic, they performed a stomach reduction operation on producer Pyotr Gavrilov. On February 28, 35-year-old Gavrilov died due to complications. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case into the death and launched an investigation. On May 16, the Zamoskvoretsky court sent bariatric surgeon Elagin and his assistant Kadzaev under house arrest for two months, that is, until July 14. And yesterday it became known that the preventive measure has been extended.
Shortly before the deadline expired, the Zamoskvoretsky District Court received a petition from the investigating authorities to extend the house arrest of Khaidarov Clinic doctors Ilya Elagin and Tamerlan Kadzaev, who were involved in the death of Pyotr Gavrilov.
Recall that Gavrilov felt unwell a few days after the operation and went back to the clinic, where he underwent a second operation. As a result, Gavrilov became even worse and was admitted to the Central Clinical Hospital of Medicine and Russian Railways, where he died on February 28. Relatives refused to perform an autopsy and, according to Jewish customs, buried the producer the next day.
Initially, Ilya Elagin and Tamerlan Kadzaev were involved in the case as witnesses. But then investigators discovered a telephone correspondence between Elagin and Khaidarov, in which doctors discussed the possibility of adjusting Gavrilov’s posthumous diagnosis. As a result, corrections were made. This correspondence became one of the main arguments in favor of house arrest.
At the same time, lawyer Vladimir Slashchev previously said that the examination was never carried out.
“It is necessary to conduct an examination, because it is this procedure that will help to determine the true causes of Gavrilov’s death. I will also add that both doctors do not agree with the preventive measure. Most likely, we will appeal the court’s decision. Since the term of the preventive measure was set for two months, that is, until July 14, shortly before its expiration the investigation will be obliged to request an extension of the term, or cancellation or change of the measure to a more lenient one,” lawyer Slashchev told KP.RU.
As a result, the period of house arrest was extended until August 28.
