As reported by the Main Investigative Department of the Russian Investigative Committee for St. Petersburg, the tragedy occurred on June 10 in the Kirovsky district of the city during work on the distillation tunnel on Kronstadskaya Street.
“The cars installed on the electric locomotive derailed, one of them crushed a worker, who died as a result of bodily injuries,” the department’s press service explained.
A criminal case was initiated for a crime provided for in part 2 of article 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of safety rules during construction or other work, resulting in the death of a person due to negligence). The maximum penalty for such a crime is up to five years in prison.
The circumstances of the incident are currently being clarified, as well as the people involved in the crime.
