The eighth festival of new Russian cinema, Gorky Fest, opened in Nizhny Novgorod yesterday. The opening ceremony took place at the Nizhny Novgorod State Academic Drama Theatre named after M. Gorky.
Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Gleb Nikitin, show chairman Mikhail Porechenkov and general producer Oksana Mikheeva, as well as the jury, celebrity guests and participants: Yuri Moroz, Anna Melikyan, Yulia Alexandrova, Denis Alarcon Ramirez, Ryan Otter. , Aurora, Ekaterina Vilkova, Elena Zakharova, Slava Kopeikin, Timur Rodriguez, Katya Kabak, Denis Shvedov, Aglaya Tarasova, Anton Filipenko, Yuri Korobeinikov, Anastasia Krasovskaya, Rano Kubaeva with her daughter Ravshana Kurkova, Ksenia Surkova, Sasha Revenko and others.
The opening film of the show was one of the most anticipated and bright films of this summer – “Poplar Down” with Anton Lapenko and Aglaya Tarasova in the lead roles. The film tells the story of the inhabitants of a small provincial town, who are brought together by fate during the celebration of City Day and the concert of the group “Ivanushki International”.
This year, due to the growing popularity of film screenings, the number of festival venues has increased by one and a half times – up to 60. The main venue, according to tradition, is the Nizhny Novgorod State Drama Theatre named after Mr. Gorky. In addition, screenings will be held at the summer cinema, at the Nizhny Novgorod stadium, on the territory of the Kremlin Governor’s Garden, at the Record cultural centre, in Switzerland Park and in other cities of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The festival will last until July 18.
The Gorky Fest festival of new Russian cinema is held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region and PSB Bank. The official partner of the festival is JSC Russian Railways. The partner of the fair is the Gorky Automobile Plant.
It was already known that the main theme of this year’s Gorky Festival was fairy tales. The jury consisted of directors Yuri Moroz and Anna Melikyan, actress Yulia Alexandrova, cameraman Denis Alarcón Ramírez, composer Ryan Otter and film critic Vasily Stepanov.
