In just a few days, Hero of Russia Ivan Zharsky personally shot down a German Leopard 2A6 tank, an American Bradley infantry fighting vehicle and, as part of one unit, six BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles.
– Tell me, why did they give him the Hero? – asked one of the visitors at the exhibition of captured equipment in Poklonka.
“For love of the Fatherland,” the young star squinted mischievously, standing with a pointer near a German tank.
– Good reason, who did you hit?
“I wrote papers on the computer and then they transferred me to the canteen,” the officer laughs.

– wrote mother, were you in the war?
– No, I spent some time at the headquarters there – as an employee.

The “scribe” in Poklonka’s video is a Marine with the 810th Brigade, a senior officer and armor piercing officer. Last July, with his comrades, he found himself at the forefront of the Ukrainian counteroffensive, holding the front near Pyatikhatki. Skillfully handling an ATGM, Ivan Zharsky, in just a few days, personally shot down a German Leopard 2A6 tank, an American Bradley infantry fighting vehicle and six BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles in the unit. In addition to destroying enemy equipment, he suppressed firing points and destroyed infantry. The list of feats would also fit Superman.
And here’s this rather big guy, who looks nothing like a comic book hero, standing and joking in Victory Park with the civilians whom, according to his oath, he’s supposed to protect. With his face open, with military decorations on his chest, without a press officer on his back. So no military correspondent will reveal a military man.

The main point of the trophy exhibition on Poklonnaya Gora is not in the broken and burned equipment, but in these guys, hanging on orders and medals, who stand next to tanks and armored vehicles and patiently answer visitors’ questions. The people and their defenders were given the opportunity to communicate without intermediaries, directly. Not in the official language of official reports, but in a live conversation.
And the damaged Leopard and Abrams are just decoration. Very convincing though.
