The Mayak Festival has announced the opening film: Sean Baker’s Anora will be screened first. The film premiered in Cannes and will be released in Russian cinemas on October 17.
The plot tells the story of a young stripper from Brooklyn, played by Mikey Madison. She suddenly marries the son of a Russian oligarch (Mark Eidelstein). Her parents find out about this and send their assistants to the showdown. The film stars Daria Ekamasova, Alexey Serebryakov, Karen Karagulyan, Vache Tovmasyan and Yura Borisov.
The jury chairman of the festival was Zhora Kryzhovnikov, and the programme director was Stas Tyrkin.
