The Menshikov Bastion of the Peter and Paul Fortress will become the St. Petersburg Museum of Archaeology. This was reported by the Committee for State Control, Use and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments of the Northern Capital. He added that the Council for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage supported this concept.

The main shows will take place at the Menshikov Spitz, which is divided into two zones.
Menshikov Bastion is located in the northeastern part of Zayachiy Island, between the Kronverkskaya and Petrovskaya curtains of the Peter and Paul Fortress. The museum, in addition to the Menshikov Bastion, which is the Spitz, the ramp, the right and left flanks, part of the enclosure of the Kronverk and Petrovskaya curtains, will also include the identified cultural heritage object “The axis of the forest-earth fortress 1703 in the place “The Menshikov Spit of the Bastion of the Peter and Paul Fortress”.
The main shows will take place at the Menshikov Spitz, which is divided into two zones: archaeological excavations and a wood and earth fortress dating back to the time of Peter the Great. The Petrovskaya Curtain will house premises for temporary exhibitions, a conference hall and an open warehouse. Visitors will be able to access the museum from inside the right flank of the bastion.
The Peter and Paul Fortress, made of wood and earth, was founded in May 1703. The Menshikov bastion was placed on ryazhi, that is, on wooden log houses, which were used as a base. Seven-meter earthen walls were poured over them. Three years later, they began to build a stone one on the site of the wood and earth fortress. In 1730 the construction of the stone Menshikov bastion was completed.
