80 applications were received from journalists from 30 countries for the competition. Authors of texts and videos about Kazakhstan selected by the authorized jury included representatives of Azerbaijan, Brazil, Egypt, Spain, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Japan and Russia. Our country was represented by RG international columnist Alexander Gasyuk, whose article on the activities of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, a multilateral association of 28 countries founded on the initiative of Kazakhstan, was included in the list of prizes.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Roman Vasilenko presented the RG correspondent and other laureates with a commemorative statuette and a diploma of the winner of the journalistic contest. In his speech Vasilenko noted the growing interest of foreign media to participate in the contest, which contributes to the recognition and strengthening of the position of the Central Asian republic in the world. Noting the positive dynamics of internal reforms and the development of Kazakhstan under President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan drew attention to Astana’s consistent course of maintaining “constructive relations with all, both in the East and in the West.”

The awarding of the winners of the “Kazakhstan through the eyes of foreign media” contest coincided with the opening of the 5th World Nomad Games (WNG) on September 8 in the Republic of Kazakhstan. More than 2,000 participants from dozens of countries will take part in them. The Russian team, formed by the Committee for National and Non-Olympic Sports of Russia, will include 150 Russian athletes in 21 sports performing under the national flag.

Today, many tourists come to the capital of Kazakhstan to witness this unique sports competition. This event is considered by its organizers to be an important element in popularizing the Turkish historical heritage, promoting the original nomadic culture and traditional sports. Astana hopes that in the future some disciplines of the World Olympic Games can be included in the list of sports competitions of the Olympic Games.

The award-winning foreign journalists will attend the opening of the World Expo, visit the historical and cultural sites of Astana, and then go on a press tour to Almaty and Aktau.

As the organizers of the contest “Kazakhstan through the eyes of foreign media” told RG, this event has been held annually since 2014. This time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the co-organizers of the contest – the Editors-in-Chief Club of Kazakhstan, as well as the National Travel Company “Tourism of Kazakhstan”, the National Sports Association and CICA – selected materials from foreign media that most creatively, reliably and objectively covered Kazakhstani topics, including in special nominations.
