The ‘high secrecy’ continues in everything that surrounds a new Amazon logistics center in the Bobes polygon, in Asturias. One year after Dragados completed the works, the new building continues without an opening date. To questions from Europa Press, the company sources consulted have declined to give any deadline for its opening.
The construction of the new Amazon logistics center in the Principality was conceived from the beginning with a high level of secrecy. However, it was in January 2021 when it finally emerged that the multinational was going to build a new logistics center in the Bobes industrial estate, owned by the public company Sociedad de Gestión y Promoción del Soil (Sogepsa). The land is about 200,000 square meters. The first estimates indicated an investment of more than 100 million euros and the creation of some 2,000 jobs for the new project.
Although the company did not want to confirm it publicly, Amazon executives did go to Oviedo in February 2021 to meet behind closed doors with the different Asturian political groups and with the head of Sogepsa, the current Vice President of the Asturian Government, Juan Cofino. That day he was in Asturias as representatives of the company Eva Pérez, and Yolanda Román. After the meetings, all the political leaders, except Podemos, supported the arrival of the new center. Amazon already had a warehouse in Granda, also in the Asturian municipality of Siero, since the summer of 2019.

Meanwhile, work continues on the new infrastructure that will improve communications in the Bobes industrial estate, where the new logistics center is located. It was in February of this year when the widening works began on the AS-17 road (Avilés-Riañu) between Bobes and Samiguel, in Siero, with an investment of more than 20 million.
The initiative will make it possible to continue a stretch of highway that is already in service and that connects the Riañu, Bobes and Asipo industrial estates and high-capacity roads such as the AS-1, the A-64 or the ‘Y’ motorway.
Specifically, the Principality awarded for 19,689,143 euros the work to widen almost two kilometers of the AS-17 as it passes through Siero to the UTE Vías y Construcciones SA and Desarrollos y Metas SL To these funds are added the 430,083 euros of the contract for technical assistance to the construction management for the control, surveillance and coordination of health and safety, signed with Eptisa Servicios de Ingeniería SL In this way, the overall cost exceeds 20.1 million.
The project has an execution period of 24 months, the works will facilitate access to the business park and will offer service to numerous companies, which will improve their connections with other industrial areas, with the ports and with the other high-capacity roads in Asturias. .
