According to the Central Election Commission of Moldova, after processing 98.38 percent of the votes, the idea of Moldova joining the EU was supported by 50.07 percent of citizens. Consequently, 49.93 percent of the country’s population is against it.
Let us remember that on Sunday, parallel to the referendum, presidential elections were held in Moldova. The processing of 98.29 percent of the votes showed that the current head of state Maia Sandu (41.92 percent of the votes) and the country’s former attorney general, the socialist Alexander Stoianoglo (26.35 percent of the votes votes) go to the second round.
